“Line and Form” - New Sculpture Exhibit by David Green
"Line and Form is the essence of this series of stone sculptures, whether purely abstract, spiritual or figurative in nature. Line and form are the elements that can suggest the flow of life energy, or the elegantly simple rhythms of music in a static block of stone.
There is a new series represented here called Portals. These were carved from granite headstones purchased from a Monument company. They are forms of transition and represent my feelings about mortality and the next great journey. These granite sculptures can be left outdoors.
Marble has a cool soft feeling and an ethereal quality that makes it a joy to live with. It is a little tricky to carve though. Too many taps in the wrong direction and the piece is broken, but each piece of marble has its own grain characteristics and once you have a feel for that the stone carves consistently. A great deal of time goes into each piece as there is little room for error when working in stone. Marble remains my favorite medium."
Artist Reception on Saturday, September 17th, 6-8 PM. The show is on view through October 9th.
